Comandos rescues victim whose legs became trapped when the floor of his home collapsed.

Comandos de Salvamento rescued Geovani Artiga Lemus, 42, tonight after he suffered injuries to his lower limbs when he became trapped in mud as the floor of his home collapsed. The home is located on Calle Principal in Colonia Esperanza, at kilometer 7 of the Carretera Troncal del Norte.

The rain that has been falling over the Salvadoran capital since early morning has already begun to cause damage, as the home flooded and caused seepage in the living-room floor where Artiga Lemus was walking. He became trapped in the hole, which was approximately one and a half meters deep.

Comandos de Salvamento arrived at the scene and began rescue efforts. After being freed, he was transported in an emergency to the General Hospital of the Social Security Institute.

Protección Civil has issued a nationwide green alert due to the presence of rain that could affect the country over the next 48 hours.

The prolonged rains could generate landslides in vulnerable areas, so residents—especially those living along rivers and cliffs—are urged to remain alert and evacuate to safe areas in the event of an emergency.

Drivers are urged to drive cautiously and not exceed speed limits in order to prevent accidents.
