Walter Antonio Méndez, 81, was rescued this morning by Comandos de Salvamento after accidentally falling into an uncovered sewer located at kilometer three and a half of the Northern Trunk Highway.

Comandos de Salvamento rescuers stabilized the elderly man, who had trauma to various parts of his body as a result of the fall. The elderly man had spent more than 16 hours inside the sewer calling for help, but his calls had not been heard during the night. It was this morning that people passing by the area alerted authorities to the situation.

Comandos de Salvamento responders transported him to Zacamil Hospital.
