Comandos de Salvamento has activated its personnel as Tropical Storm Amanda passes through, having already caused the deaths of more than 10 people during the first hours of rain across the national territory.

Since Saturday, the rescue brigades of Comandos de Salvamento were called to remain alert for any disaster. During the early hours of Saturday night, emergencies began to come in, as 40 people had been trapped by flooding at Playa Mizata.

In Colonia San Patricio, 5 people were buried by a landslide that fell onto the humble home. Four of them were brought to safety; however, an 8-year-old child lost his life despite the efforts of the Comandos de Salvamento rescue brigade.

At kilometer 7 of the Troncal del Norte highway, two men died when a retaining wall collapsed onto the home where they lived. The bodies have already been recovered by Comandos de Salvamento rescuers.

In the country’s central and eastern areas, Comandos de Salvamento responders continue evacuation and rescue operations for people who have been affected, as well as in the communities of Nejapa and Apopa.

The damage has affected not only vulnerable areas, but also residential developments that have been endangered by flooding and overflowing rivers. Such is the case in Colonia La Magala, where several families were trapped, as well as in Colonia Santa Lucía, Las Brisas de San Francisco, where the force of the water carried away at least 5 vehicles that were parked along the roadway.

Comandos de Salvamento will maintain an alert throughout the national territory, activating all its personnel to remain prepared for any emergency, as requested by the President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, and Protección Civil, since the rains could continue for three more days.
