This post is also available in: Spanish Norwegian Bokmål French Chinese (Simplified) Japanese

After two days of arduous work searching for the seven people buried beneath the earth near kilometer eight of the old road to Santo Tomás, a glimmer of hope emerged, as one of the pets belonging to the Melara Salamanca family was rescued alive.

It was “Oso,” a dog that remained beneath the landslide for two days, which completely covered his owners’ home. This afternoon, he was rescued and handed over to Wilfredo Salamanca, a member of the family being sought.

Efforts have been intensified to find the parents and their five children, who were buried by a landslide early Wednesday morning. Comandos de Salvamento, Cruz Verde, Cruz Roja, Bomberos, the army, PNC, and MOP workers are working tirelessly to locate the family.

We remain hopeful that some of them may be alive. We recovered the canine, and he is in good condition, said the rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento.
