The powerful storm that struck Thursday night buried several homes in Cantón El Angelito 2, in Nejapa. So far, four bodies have been recovered, including that of a one-year-old child.
Comandos de Salvamento, together with other emergency-response organizations, the Armed Forces, Protección Civil Municipal personnel, and PNC, have begun searching for survivors, as the landslide of earth and water swept away the humble homes in that cantón.
The bodies of the people who have been rescued are: María de Jesús Zepeda de Barrios, 65; Maximiliano Barrios, 70; María Lucia Silva, 60; and the minor Mauricio Erodas, one year old.
Other families managed to save their lives and have been taken to evangelical churches and the sports complex that was made available by the Mayor of Nejapa. In addition, the families have already been provided with mattresses at the shelters.
Comandos de Salvamento and the other emergency-response organizations will begin search operations in the early hours of today.
