The Executive Directorate of Comandos de Salvamento has issued the alert to the 27 sections to remain on maximum alert and attentive to the Municipal Committees of Protección Civil, in view of the threat posed by Hurricane Iota, which will make landfall in Nicaraguan territory on Monday night.
The Protección Civil authorities have ordered an orange alert throughout our country and a red alert for the Nejapa area, where search and debris-removal efforts are still underway following the landslide that buried several homes 19 days ago and where one person is still being sought.
Comandos de Salvamento has ordered its personnel specialized in vertical rescue and water rescue, as well as search-and-rescue personnel for confined spaces, to remain available in anticipation of the emergency.
Iota will reach Nicaragua and part of Honduras on Monday night, countries in the Central American region affected by Hurricane Eta that still have hundreds of victims and flooded areas, specifically in Choloma, Honduras, where Comandos de Salvamento participated in a humanitarian mission.
The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has said that at least three days of storm-type rainfall are expected, influenced by Hurricane Iota. In addition, it is expected that, if it passes over our territory, it will already be a tropical depression.
However, the Protección Civil authorities and the Executive Directorate of Comandos de Salvamento are maintaining the maximum alert among their brigades.
In case of emergency, you can call 2133-0000.
