COMMANDOS REMEMBER TRAGEDY IN LAS COLINAS

The morning of January 13, 2001, was one of the harsh trials faced by the volunteers of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, as they worked to rescue and recover bodies in Colonia Las Colinas in Santa Tecla, following the earthquake that left hundreds dead and injured.
The sound of the ambulance sirens of the men in yellow, who are known as Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, rang out. They were the first to arrive to rescue the victims who had been buried by the landslide that swept away hundreds of homes.
Harsh memories that, now that twenty-two years have passed, remain; it was not possible to recover the remains of some people, and their families still carry mourning in their hearts.
Tragedies that have strengthened rescue organizations, especially Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, whose members seek every day to train in search and rescue so they can act during natural disasters and be effective in their work.
