Early this morning, the Zapotitán branch of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador was alerted that a baby was crying inside a septic tank. Upon arriving at the site, the PNC had already cordoned off the area so the rescue could begin.
The incident occurred at one of the homes in Caserío El Zanate, Zapotitán, in the Municipio of Ciudad Arce. The infant’s mother is a 23-year-old woman, who stated that she did not know she was pregnant and that when she went to the bathroom, she realized she was giving birth.
However, the rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, who entered the septic tank, discovered that the umbilical cord had already been cut, so the Policía detained the mother pending investigation.
The rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador struggled for several hours to remove the service base from the tank so that one of their members could enter. He managed to recover the newborn, who was still alive and was taken as an emergency to Hospital San Rafael in Santa Tecla.
