Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador remains on alert in the Eastern Zone.

The strong earthquake that shook the national territory on Tuesday night and whose aftershocks have continued has echoed at the Executive Directorate of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador.

Its director, Roberto Cruz, has issued orders for the delegations in the country’s Eastern Zone to keep their personnel on alert, since following the 6.8 earthquake located off the coast of Usulután, authorities have maintained monitoring, counting 139 aftershocks as of 6 p.m. this Wednesday, 40 of which were felt by the population.

However, despite the magnitude of the movement, only some damage was reported at businesses where products fell. Only in the Municipio of Jucuarán, in the Departamento of Usulután, did six homes sustain some damage, with no victims to mourn, as reported by the Director of the Cuerpo de Bomberos de El Salvador.

In response, Roberto Cruz, Executive Director of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, has asked the delegates of the branches in Alegría, Berlín, Chinameca, and Jucuapa to remain alert for any abnormality or, should the aftershocks continue, to travel to the potentially affected areas, with the aim of ensuring the safety of the population and coordinating with Protección Civil Committees to help people.

Twenty-two years ago, El Salvador suffered two powerful earthquakes that left hundreds of people dead, injured, and missing; therefore, it is now necessary to remain on alert.

Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador is making its emergency numbers, 2133-0000 or 911, available for reporting any incident.
