Rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador stand guard before Wilber Enrique’s coffin as a sign of respect for his passing. Wilber Enrique Sánchez Martínez, a 23-year-old, was bid farewell by his fellow members of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, Protección Civil, and his beloved grandmother Lilian Martínez, with whom he lived in Nuevo Lourdes, Colón.
Wilber Enrique had been part of the group of volunteers from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, based in Lourdes, Colón, for three years, standing out for his high level of service and responsibility, which had earned him the rank of deputy delegate.
The young man is remembered by his neighbors as a helpful person with a kind heart, since he was a fundamental pillar for Mrs. Lilian Martínez, whom he helped very early in the morning to cook the corn, then go to the mill and distribute tortillas in the area.
Wilber Enrique lost his life last Sunday at Playa Escondida in La Libertad, where he had gone with some friends to practice rappelling and suffered the accident. His body was recovered 24 hours later at Playa El Palmarcito.
Family members, friends, and colleagues attended his wake, and this Wednesday he was given a Christian burial at the cemetery in Lourdes, Colón, La Libertad.
Wilber Enrique has been called to the celestial brigades, like many other members of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador who have lost their lives in the performance of their duties… you will always be remembered, Wilber Enrique.
