Tanker truck without brakes destroys small business, leaving an elderly woman dead.

On Monday afternoon, an elderly couple who made a living selling fruit along the Carretera al Puerto de La Libertad were caught by surprise when their humble establishment was destroyed.

A tanker truck traveling down the Carretera al Puerto de La Libertad suffered mechanical problems, causing its driver to lose control of the vehicle near Cantón El Nance, at kilometer 26, destroying the humble sales stand belonging to the two elderly people.

Following the impact, the two people who were inside the establishment were struck by the tanker truck, which destroyed everything in its path.

Comandos de Salvamento arrived at the scene to assist the victims. José Cándido Álvarez Zambrano was transported on an emergency basis; he had trauma to his right upper limb and was taken to Hospital San Rafael by SEM personnel.

Meanwhile, at the scene, members of Comandos de Salvamento searched through the rubble for María Bernarda Ortega de Orellana, who no longer showed vital signs.

Comandos de Salvamento Puerto La Libertad Costa and Zaragoza assisted victims.
