On Sunday morning, domestic and foreign tourists were alarmed when hundreds of volunteers from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador filled El Majahual Beach, in La Libertad Sur.
It was a drill in which rescuers, lifeguards, nurses, and doctors from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador demonstrated how to act in cases of an emergency at the beach.
A boat carrying people attempting to cross farther out to sea capsized, leaving 20 people who were rescued by the Comandos lifeguards. One by one, they were handed over to the rescuers so the victims could be evaluated by the doctors.
Two of the people on the boat were in critical condition, so it was necessary to coordinate with the Salvadoran Air Force and the National Navy to carry out an airborne rescue.
With this demonstration, Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador measures the response capacity of the personnel who will provide their services during the Easter season, when volunteers will be deployed on the country’s main highways with vehicle rescue equipment in cases of accidents involving trapped people.
First-aid posts at major tourist centers, beaches, and highways to immediately assist possible victims.
All of this is part of the Summer Rescue Plan 2026, which begins on Sunday, March 28, with approximately 1,500 members of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, 55 ambulances, and rescue and diving units ready for any eventuality.
