25 YEARS OF A TRAGEDY

This post is also available in: Spanish Norwegian Bokmål French Chinese (Simplified) Japanese

Several people survived the earthquake.

On the morning of January 13, 2001, El Salvador was shaken by a powerful earthquake that left more than 900 people dead and some five thousand injured. Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador was one of the first entities to arrive to aid the injured.

However, the greatest tragedy occurred in Colonia Las Colinas in Santa Tecla, where a landslide buried hundreds of homes, leaving approximately 600 people buried.

The rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador worked tirelessly to rescue some victims alive, while the bodies of others were recovered to be handed over to their relatives.

A painful memory for those who lost family members and for those whose bodies, 25 years later, remain beneath the landslide, which today is one of the places where our Salvadoran brothers and sisters experienced the most pain.

Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador continually trains its volunteers, instructing them in all types of rescue operations so they can respond effectively to any incident caused by the forces of nature.
