During the third medical campaign carried out by Doctors of the Americas together with Comandos de Salvamento of El Salvador, more than 370 people from Comunidad Mira Valle, located along the Litoral Highway in Sonsonate, were treated this Monday.

In the early morning hours, Doctors of the Americas set out for the coconut-growing city in the western part of the country, where hundreds of people were waiting to receive a medical consultation and their medications.

Comandos de Salvamento of El Salvador, under the direction of its Health coordinator, Rosa Arrué de Méndez, prepared the pharmacy area so that people—including women, elderly people, and children—could collect their medicines free of charge, thanks to Doctors of the Americas and the institution.

Dr. Andrew Badulak, head of the U.S. doctors’ mission, supervises each station where the organization’s health professionals kindly attend to each resident.

Stephanie Badulak distributes clothing, footwear, and toys to people after they have had their consultation and collected their medications. “It is gratifying to see the smiles of the children who receive a toy,” says Stephanie Badulak, who, together with her wife, has come to the country for 21 years to help the country’s most needy communities.

This Tuesday, Doctors of the Americas and Comandos de Salvamento of El Salvador will travel to Comunidad Pinar de Granada, in Santa Ana.

The campaign will conclude on Wednesday in Comunidad Río Las Cañas in Soyapango. However, a team from Doctors of the Americas will teach Comandos de Salvamento volunteers a course on the use of tourniquets on Thursday the 14th at Comandos’ central headquarters.
