This afternoon, Vertical Rescue Units of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador traveled to Cantón Las Cabañitas on the banks of the Acelhuate River, in the jurisdiction of Apopa, where a group of men were socializing. Following the rise in the river caused by the rain that lashed the capital, two of them were swept away by the strong current.

The men managed to hold on to a tree trunk and some rocks, while local residents and members of the Tactical Unit of Protección Civil and the Vertical Rescue Unit of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador prepared the equipment to bring the two people to safety.

The force of the Acelhuate River endangered not only the lives of the two victims, but also those of the rescuers, who had limited time to get the two people onto solid ground.

Minutes later, the rescuers skillfully managed to pull the men from the raging waters and take them to solid ground so they could receive pre-hospital care and later be taken to Zacamil Hospital due to the injuries they sustained.

Two men were swept away by the waters of the Acelhuate River in Apopa.
