MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, BUT WITH PAIN

The bodies of the Melara Salamanca family are recovered.

Rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento, Cruz Verde, Bomberos, Cruz Roja, the Army, Protección Civil and others successfully completed the recovery of the seven people who were buried in Santo Tomás early last Wednesday morning.

A mission accomplished, but one filled with great pain for the relatives, who held on to the hope of finding one of the members of the Melara Salamanca family alive. However, that was not the case; they all lost the battle, and the only survivor was their pet, “Oso.”

Hours of arduous work by everyone who took part in the recovery effort—two tireless days to locate the bodies and now give them a Christian burial. Strength to the family of colleague Wilfredo Salamanca.

However, the work does not stop for everyone who is part of the Emergency System, since the rains are wreaking havoc in other areas and we must remain standing in order to continue providing protection and assistance to our fellow Salvadorans.

Now we are leaving this scene so we can continue in other areas where our presence is required, because our hearts and service are with our fellow human beings.

Volunteers’ arduous work.
