Employees of the Ciudad Arce Free Trade Zone participated in the earthquake risk drill.

Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador highlighted its participation in the commemorative event for International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, held under the motto “Resilience begins at home.”

The event, organized by the director of Protección Civil, Luis Alonso Amaya, included a nationwide earthquake drill and an exhibition at Plaza Gerardo Barrios in San Salvador. During the event, Amaya emphasized that “raising awareness about disaster risk prevention must begin in our homes.”

At the exhibition, Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador demonstrated that it has the equipment and training necessary to respond to emergencies in the event of earthquakes. Its members, specialized in Collapsed Structure Rescue, have extensive experience, including their arduous work during the earthquakes of October 1986 and January and February 2001. They have also gained experience by participating in important international missions in Guatemala, Mexico, Ecuador and, most recently, the Humanitarian Mission to Venezuela, sent by President Nayib Bukele.

As part of its ongoing commitment to emergency prevention and response, the institution announced the opening of new rescue training courses for the end of 2026, with the firm purpose of keeping its volunteers ready and prepared to respond to any disaster.

Roberto Cruz, executive director of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, stated that the 35 branches are participating today in the nationwide earthquake drill organized by Protección Civil. “We are bringing prevention to school students, as well as to Salvadorans in their workplaces, conducting building evacuations and sharing advice for this type of tragedy.”
